Metallica Shares New Performance of ‘If Darkness Had A Son’

Metallica is streaming pro-shot video of a performance of their “72 Seasons” track, “If Darkness Had A Son.”

The video came from a May 19th show in Paris, France.

The third single from the band’s latest album was featured during the second of two concerts at the city’s Stade de France, where the band continued their “No Repeat Weekend” concept by featuring two completely different setlists without repeats between the two events.

Metallica will perform at the UK’s Download Festival, where they will appear on June 8th and 10th.

“72 Seasons”, Metallica’s 11th studio album, debuted within the top three on the Billboard 200 chart.

Frontman James Hetfield explained, “Seventy-two seasons, the first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is a reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.”

The band also has a concert film hitting theaters worldwide on August 18th and August 20th, called “Metallica: M72 World Tour Live From Arlington, TX.”
