James Hetfield is trying to give back.

The Metallica rocker recently made a surprise visit to a pair of wounded Ukrainian soldiers.

Hetfield was introduced to the two soldiers by Limbs for Liberty, a local non-profit organization founded to support Ukrainians who have been injured during the war.

Hetfield met Kelli Rohrig, the co-founder of the group, by chance in the hospital’s car park and she arranged the visit.

She later told reporters that Hetfield, “wished the men luck and get better soon.”

“Metallica’s songs are very popular in Ukraine,” said the men’s translator, Olga Milinan. “Growing up, we all listened to them and dreamed of seeing them.”

“It was unexpected,” said the second patient, Igor Voinyi. “I didn’t even believe it at the first moment that it was him. It was very short, but it was a very warm meeting. It would be nice to meet him at a campfire and have a drink, instead of the hospital.”

After the visit, Hetfield left a note on Rohrig’s car saying: “You made my day.”
