The Doobie Brothers’ 50th Anniversary Tour will continue on without founding member Tom Johnston.

Johnston has been forced to drop off the tour due to a back injury that will require surgery. He plans to return to the band once he’s recovered.

“I hope for a speedy recovery and can’t wait to get back on the road and continue doing what I love,” said Johnston. “I would like to thank Pat, Michael, John, and the entire Doobie Brothers band for covering for me while I recover from back surgery…I’m sure they will bring it every night as they always do.”

The 50th anniversary tour reunites Johnston, Pat Simmons, Michael McDonald, and John McFee. The current leg kicks off this week in Hollywood, Florida.
