Legendary singer-songwriter David Crosby, known for The Byrds and Crosby, Stills, & Nash, has died at the age of 81.

His wife says Crosby died after a long illness, “lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django.”

“Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us.” Jan continued, “His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music. Peace, love, and harmony to all who knew David and those he touched.”

Crosby’s musical career began in 1964 with The Byrds before leaving in 1967 and forming Crosby, Stills & Nash – which two years later became Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

He continued to record and perform throughout his career, last touring in 2019.

Crosby also wrote two memoirs and is a two-time inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with the Byrds and CSNY.
