A lot has happened since Lamont & Tonelli last spoke with Mike McGlinchey.

For one, the 49ers’ right tackle is back on the field after completing his rehab from knee surgery last season. Despite a small hiccup during training camp, McGlinchey says he’ll be ready to go for Week 1.

McGlinchey also got engaged, telling 107.7 The Bone that he proposed to his fiancée in Cabo this summer.

One thing that didn’t change? Jimmy Garoppolo is still on the 49ers roster.

McGlinchy recounted his reaction to the shocking news that Jimmy G would indeed be sticking around.

“I thought it was the least likely thing to happen but at the same time knew it was a pretty real possibility once the quarterback musical chairs that happened all offseason happened,” McGlinchey said. “I think it was obviously a surface level kind of a shock factor but at the end of the day it makes sense. It makes sense for both us and Jimmy. It gives both parties a chance to succeed and do the right thing by each other and we’re juiced up to have him back. It’s going to only help us and help Trey get better and all that kind of stuff.

“It’s a role he’s done before and been very successful at. And it’s a place that he feels he can win. And I think everyone around here believes that and he didn’t want to miss out on that opportunity.”
