Pushing the Boundaries at S27 Alehouse

For the first time in quite some time, we are back down in the South Bay for our next episode of BONE-A-Fide Brews…and it’s at one of the newest breweries to hit the Bay Area, S27 Alehouse. The brainchild of husband and wife due, Lucas and Kathy Szymanowski, S27 wasn’t supposed to be a thing until their kids were out of the house, but they decided that now is a better time than later, even in the middle of a pandemic. I first found out about S27 during my time at Devil’s Canyon, they were just starting out and had contracted with DCBC to produce their beers seeing at the time their own taproom and brewery was in the process of being built. It wasn’t until this past West Coast Can Invitational where people were talking about their sour smoothie, “Bluffy”, that I finally got a chance to try one of their products, and guys, I was hooked!

“Bluffy” later went on to win “Best New Discovery” and “Best In Show” at the invitational which is a testament to their mission statement, “We are focused on true-to-style continental beers and interpretations of modern times”. As you listen to the episode you’ll hear us talk about some of the products that really caught my eye, including a pineapple brown sour.

I really enjoyed my time getting to know both Kathy and Lucas and getting to know the story of their brewery. Not only does the brewery offer unique beers you will not find anywhere else but they offer fun and unique events at the taproom including Drag Queen Bingo night! Even though they have only been in business for almost two years now, this brewery is going to have a very vibrant and great future.

Cheers \m/,
