Cowboys fans throw trash at refs, hit their own players after loss

Some Dallas Cowboys fans didn’t take their team’s 23-17 wild-card loss to the San Francisco 49ers all that well.

Fans were caught throwing debris onto the field after the game, some of which hit Cowboys players, including defensive lineman Demarcus Lawrence. Though it appeared as if the fans were peppering their own players, Lawrence said after the game that the trash was actually being aimed at the game officials as they walked into the tunnel.

It would seem that the fans are blaming the refs for their team tying a playoff record for 14 penalties in the game. Perhaps they are also placing blame on the officials for the way the game ended, when the Cowboys spotted the ball themselves, rather than giving it to the ref first. The official must spot the ball before it can be snapped, and the extra time it took for the referee to re-spot the ball burned the final second off the clock.

Whatever the reason, not a great look.
