Mike McGlinchey details most painful part of his rehab

We are now eight weeks removed from Mike McGlinchey’s season-ending torn quadriceps injury. McGlinchey told Lamont & Tonelli on Thursday that he is past the hardest portion of his rehab, but recounted how painful the first couple weeks were.

“The first couple weeks of bending it and trying to control my body weight again was the hardest part,” McGlinchey said. “My leg was so weak after surgery that when I needed to start doing the exercises with the trainers, the first couple weeks of that definitely was the hardest for sure.”

The good news is that McGlinchey’s rehab is going well and that he’s actually ahead of schedule. That should put him in position to be ready to take back over as the 49ers’ starting right tackle in 2022.

“I’m doing really well. I’m flying through rehab, it’s been going really well, haven’t had any setbacks or anything like that. I’m pretty far ahead of schedule from where they thought I’d be at this time and I’m doing well. Obviously it’s tough not being able to compete with my team especially when you’ve got a playoff chance on the line and all that good stuff but I’m supporting them as much as I can and being involved as much as I can. My job right now is to get ready for next year.”
