Mike McGlinchy provides positive update on his injury rehab

While the 49ers are in the midst of turning their season around, Mike McGlinchey’s recovery from a season-ending quad injury is just beginning.

The good news? McGlinchey is no longer in pain and starting the rehab process.

“I’m through all the pain and discomfort and all that kind of stuff from the surgery, but now I’m just fighting boredom,” McGlinchey told Lamont & Tonelli on Tuesday. “It’s just a battle of having to be patient and understanding that this rehab is going to take some time and not get too ahead of myself. Spending a lot of time on the couch. That’s all I’ve got going on right now.”

For now, McGlinchey is just supposed to rest, a tall ask for a professional athlete that typically begins his day at 5 a.m. At this point, McGlinchey can’t even drive himself.

“I’m not supposed to walk around quite yet. I can get up to walk into the kitchen but no more than that. I have crutches so I’m not full weight bearing on my leg…It’s my right leg so I can’t even drive right now…I just have to sit in (his girlfriend’s) backseat while she drives me to rehab.

“Everything feels pretty good other than where the scar is and I don’t have a lot of strength in my right leg. But I feel good, it’s not like the first weekend where I was in a ton of pain. So I want to get out and do things like I want to be able to walk my dog, but I can’t do that stuff until this thing heals.”
