Sunday was brutal for the 49ers, but it was even worse for Mike McGlinchey

McGlinchey’s season ended during San Francisco’s disappointing loss to the Cardinals, when the offensive lineman sustained a serious injury to his leg.

“It’s actually the tendon,” McGlinchey told Lamont & Tonelli on Thursday. “I ruptured my quad tendon. It’s right where it attaches to my knee, at the top of my knee.”

McGlinchey said that this injury didn’t come out of nowhere. He’s had issues in the area for a long time.

“I’ve been dealing with some soreness in that area for a while. It’s been a couple years worth or soreness and partial issues in that tendon. Kept maintenance on it, kept it going but the other day when I tried to anchor on the pass protections, I planted on my right leg and felt it just give way.

“After that I got back to the sideline after I cooled off and I really couldn’t bend my knee anymore, and that makes it a little hard to play football. So I had to call it for the day.

“I was pretty optimistic on Sunday night. I thought maybe a couple weeks, I thought it was going to need some time to calm down, but no it’s a little worse than I thought, and going to need surgery to get it put back together.”
