Coaching an NFL team is hard enough. The last thing you need is a tech failure in the middle of a game.

Yet, that’s what happened to Kyle Shanahan multiple times on Sunday, when his communication with Jimmy Garoppolo and his coaches were compromised due to the rainfall multiple times. The most notable incident took place in the third quarter, when Shanahan challenged a play he shouldn’t have because he couldn’t get information from up in the booth.

“Oh yeah that happens with me and the quarterback and me and the coaches,” Shanahan told Lamont and Tonelli. “It actually happened a couple times in the game. We tried to put water stuff over our wires and everything to protect it, but it does become an issue.

“It’s not always just in the rain. It happens every few weeks too, which I guess is just wifi or whatever.”

It’s supposed to be clear this Sunday in Chicago, so let’s hope communication issues are one less thing the 49ers will have to worry about this week.
