Pennsylvania native Mike McGlinchey reveals his favorite cheesesteak in the Bay Area

Mike McGlinchey knows his way around a cheesesteak.

A Pennsylvania native, the 310 pounder has had his fare share of the Philly favorite, and decided to treat the entire 49ers support staff and some of his teammates to sandwiches from his favorite joint after their win vs. the Eagles on Sunday.

“My favorite spot is Dalessandro’s in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia,” McGlinchey told Lamont and Tonelli on Thursday. “It’s about a mile away from my high school. It’s been my favorite spot since I was 13. I figure when we got back to my hometown I treat everyone to my favorite little slice of Philly.

“Our support staff put together such an incredible week at the Greenbrier when we got relocated to stay on the East Coast trip. Our equipment guys, our radio guys, our logistics and travel guys, they shelled out the red carpet for us all week. The smallest gesture I could do to thank them is a cheesesteak from my favorite spot.”

Since McGlinchey is something of a cheesesteak expert, he also gave a recommendation for Bay Area residents looking to get their fix.

“The only place I’ve found that is a really solid cheesesteak is Amato’s in San Jose. They do a hell of a job there. It’s only a mile or two from my house so it works out. I try to lay off the cheesesteaks as much as possible during the season, but when I’m craving one that’s the place I go to.”
