Iron Maiden’s Adrian Smith was almost in Def Leppard.

In a new interview, drummer Rick Allen discussed the death of guitarist Steve Clark in 1991, saying the band strongly considered Smith to fill the slot. Allen explained he “really loved the idea” of Smith joining the band but says in the end, Def Leppard made the right choice.

Allen said, “It’s interesting when you put somebody in a slightly different situation and new things are revealed about them, and it was cool. It was a compliment that he was so into it. But I think ultimately, Vivian [Campbell] was the absolutely perfect choice.”

Who else do you think could have replaced Steve Clark?
