That Time the Foo Fighters Live Rickrolled an Entire Stadium

As one may or may not know, one of the biggest rights of passage to being on the internet is being Rickrolled, falsely clicking on a link leading to Rick Astley‘s legendary “Never Going to Give You Up.” However, in true Foo Fighters fashion, the group decided to Rickroll an entire London audience when they brought up Mr. Astley randomly to perform his hit.

In 2017 the group was performing at the 02 Stadium in London, England when frontman Dave Grohl brought up English native Rick Astley to perform possibly the best and most rock n’ roll version of “Never Going to Give You Up” ever. This was a Rick-Grohl if you will.

With a slew of f-bombs, Grohl hyped up his surprise guest to the crowd.

“Every once in awhile you meet a badass motherf**ker that has the balls to come up and do something in front of 30,000 people that he’s never done before,” Grohl teased. “And I would like to introduce that badass motherf***ker right now!”

After Astley nervously joined them on stage and as the epic jam started to ring out to the massive crowd, we couldn’t help but feel like even though we had been Rickrolled, that this was probably one of the best ways for it to happen.

And don’t worry, if you’ve been the victim of a Rickroll before, you’re not the only one. The video currently sits at just under 1 billion views on YouTube which put it in the pantheon of most-watched videos on the internet.

So, as many genuine fans of Mr. Astley, there are plenty of others who have just plain been pranked. You’re in good company.
