Being the son of legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen leaves some pretty big shoes to fill, but Wolfgang Van Halen‘s acoustic performance of “Distance” on the Today Show has left us rather speechless.
Not only is the video tribute to his father playing in the background a real tear-jerker, but so are the poignant lyrics about his father’s passing and the grief that has come along with that loss.
“I’m so nervous
Don’t know my place
A life without you
I’m not ready to move on”
Not only is the song about WVH’s journey to find his identity without his loving father, but also the battle of sadness over the everlasting pain of losing a loved one.
“Don’t want this place
A world without you
I don’t think I’ll ever move on
No matter what the distance is, I will be with you”
For the record Wolfgang has gone under the moniker “Mammoth WVH” and his singles “Distance” and “You’re to Blame” set his upcoming record as a hard rock album with softer moments woven in.
So far, all signs point to the record being a success as “Distance” has just reached #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart.
