Mostert reaches highest speed by ball carrier since 2018 during 76-yard touchdown

Well, that was fast. Much like Raheem Mostert.

The veteran running back picked up right where he left off at the end of 2019 in the 49ers season opener. With just under five minutes down in the first quarter of the season, Mostert caught a short pass from Jimmy Garoppolo and made an early house call.

The play went for 76 yards and put the 49ers up 10 points in the contest.

The running back threw his own future with the 49ers into doubt this summer when his agent made clear that Mostert wanted a trade if San Francisco would not rework his contract. The demand came as a surprise to the organization, and admittedly “ticked off” general manager John Lynch.

Eventually cooler heads prevailed, and Mostert got the around $2.5 million in added incentives that make his contract look more like one for a running back and less like one for a special teamer.

Certainly looked like a running back on that play.
