49ers intend to sign former Giants offensive lineman to five-year deal [report]

The 49ers are wasting no time addressing their needs this offseason.

Two days after officially adding All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman, the 49ers will soon fill their hole at interior lineman, as they plan to sign former Giants C-G Weston Richburg to a five-year deal, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said last week that he full expects Daniel Kilgore, who the team signed to a three-year contract extension this offseason, to be the team’s starting center, meaning that Richburg will likely take the place of G Brandon Fusco, who himself is a free agent this offseason.

Before sustaining a season-ending concussion on Nov. 4 last year, Richburg had started 50 of 51 games since being drafted by the Giants in the second-round in 2014. Richburg started his NFL career as a guard, but has opened the last three seasons as the Giants’ starting center.

Pro Football Focus gave Richburg a 71.3 grade last season, which would’ve ranked him as the 13th best center in football. The 49ers cannot officially sign Richburg until Wednesday at 1 p.m.
