If you listen to the iconic songs “Ice Ice Baby” and “Under Pressure,” you may recognize the identical bass line. Now, years later, Vanilla Ice is opening up about the once major music legal issue.

In a recent interview, Vanilla Ice explains that he bought the rights to Queen and David Bowie’s song “Under Pressure” so that they wouldn’t sue him.

Vanilla Ice said his reasoning for the purchase was because it would be cheaper to buy the song outright than to have to pay for legal expenses or compensation for taking the bass line.

Patrick also asked Vanilla Ice if he ever denied sampling the bass line, and Ice owned up to it, calling his younger self a “jackass.”
