Full-length footage of Nirvana performing and recording a music video inside an empty Radio Shack in 1988 was recently uncovered.
On January 23, 1988, Ted Ed Fred, who would later become known as grunge pioneers, Nirvana, recorded their first studio demo tape including the songs, “If You Must” and “Paper Cuts.” This clip from the following day shows the band lip syncing and making a music video from the tracks they recorded during that studio session.
Kurt Cobain can be seen flying into the shot during multiple takes, with Krist Novoselic accompanying on bass and Dale Crover, who went on to play with the Melvins winding out the trio, providing “live” drums during the recording.
Video archivist and SPIN tipster Mike Ziegler posted the clip of the recording along with a few more videos including recordings of live shows, interviews with Cobain, Novoselic and Dave Grohl and a clip of the band playing with plasma globes.
