Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee mentions that the 49ers do not intend to use the franchise tag this offseason, which means that S-Dashon Goldson will likely test the free agent market.
The franchise tag would cost the 49ers roughly around $8.16 million to tag Goldson for a second consecutive offseason. Goldson has actually been an unrestricted free agent for three straight seasons.
During a press conference at the NFL Combine 49ers' head coach Jim Harbaugh mentioned that Goldson is deserving of a long-term contract.- However, general manager Trent Baalke also weighed in shortly after stating that; "you can't pay everybody, and you certainly can't pay everybody if you're overpaying others."
Goldson is currently listed as the No. 15 free agent in our Top 50 Free Agents List.
