Mission
The Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.

ChrisNational History
Born in 1980 when a group of caring individuals helped a young boy, Chris, fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer, the Make-A-Wish Foundation is now the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 69 chapters in the U.S. and its territories.  Granting more than 12,000 wishes a year and 144,000 wishes in the United States since inception the Make-A-Wish Foundation celebrated "25 Years of Making Wishes Come True" in 2005.

Chapter History
The Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1984.  In its first year, a total of 27 wishes were granted.  Now one of the largest chapters nationwide, the Foundation has granted 5,000 wishes and grants over 300 wishes per year. While the Foundation follows the policies and guidelines of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, the Greater Bay Area chapter operates as a separate 501(c)3 organization.  All funds raised by the Foundation are used to fulfill our mission in the Bay Area.

Special Events

SFPD ChallengeSFPD Challenge
October, 2010 - Aquatic Park, San Francisco

Thanks to all who raised $28,000 during our 2009 event!  Three events in one - all hosted by the San Francisco Police Department to raise money for our chapter!  Enjoy breakfast or lunch with Cops and Coffee; jump in San Francisco Bay during the Plunge in the Bay; or accept the challenge of the Cable Car Pull, all in the picturesque location of Aquatic Park.  During the Cable Car Pull teams of four compete against each other to see who can pull a cable car the fastest over a distance of 200 feet.  It's not too early to form your team, start to "bulk up" and be ready to be cheered on by a crowd of supporters, along with wish kids and their families.

Monterey Bay GalaMonterey Bay Gala
November, 2010 - Tehama Golf & Country Club, Carmel

The 2009 Gala raised over $545,000 in cash and in-kind donations!  We thank the hard-working Events Committee for their commitment to our mission and making this event such an outstanding success. Cocktails on the terrace, a gourmet dinner, world class entertainment and an auction offering one-of-a-kind travel, entertainment and luxury items make this an evening not to be missed!  Watch here for details on the 2010 event.
