Baby Huey Lists Definitive Green Day Moments

At long last Baby Huey has given us his lists of definitive Green Day moments. Though asking him to pick five was like asking a mother to pick her favorite child, he chose and he chose well.

No. 5

Mike Dirnt broken nose at San Francisco’s legendary Bottom of the Hill – While performing for a room of die-hard fans, in a venue barely bigger than a garage, one fan accidentally struck Dirnt’s mic stand which then struck him in the face. The blow resulted in a bloodied and broken nose. Dirnt, however, powered on and finished the song before the bleeding became too much and he left the stage. Frontman Bill Joe Armstrong played a song solo to allow Dirnt to recover.

No. 4

Green Day and U2’s NFL Pregame Katrina relief performance of The Saints Are Coming – After Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana and Florida in 2006 many artists sought to help with their music. Green Day and U2 teamed up with their talents to cover The Saints Are Coming to help raise money to be donated to relief efforts. They performed the song live that same year during the Monday Night Football Pregame show of the New Orleans Saints versus Atlanta Falcons.

No. 3

Green Day covering Queen’s We Are the Champions in London (With Billie Joe rocking a fake mustache) – While touring off their mega successful record, American Idiot, Green Day played at the Milton Keynes National Bowl just north of London to the tune of 130,000 people. What better way to honor the Brits than to cover one of their most famous, and most mustachioed, performers of all time. Green Day rocked an amazing cover of Queen’s We Are the Champions to a vast crowd of English fans.

No. 2

Green Day plays Woodstock 94′ (Mudstock) – During the 25th anniversary of Woodstock a young Green Day was invited to play the legendary festival. Keeping true to it’s roots, the festival grounds were hit with rain and thousands of attendants making a veritable mud stew. The rowdy young punk rockers antagonized the crowd into starting a mud fight with them creating a memorable moment that seemed straight out of 1974.

No. 1

Green Day plays sold-out hometown show at San Francisco’s AT&T Park – On the heels of their sextuple platinum record American Idiot, Green day played at the home of the San Francisco Giants, AT&T Park (now Oracle Park.) The band sold out the 45,000 seat venue with openers Jimmy Eat World and Flogging Molly. This mega homecoming show cemented them not only as Bay Area greats, but rock n’ roll greats.
