Yesterday’s News Today: Neal Schon angry over band’s recent Whitehouse visit

Baby Huey and Chasta are back with another edition of Yesterday’s News Today, keeping you up to date on all the latest rock news.

Foo Fighters play secret 3 hour set after Lollapalooza

Baby Huey and Chasta are insanely jealous of the lucky 1,100 people to attend a last minute concert held by the Foo Fighters who were surprisingly absent from the Lollapalooza lineup. The attendees lucky enough to hear about the show were treated to an epic three hour set list. Billboard.com writes that singer Dave Ghrol was ready to go all night:

“Tonight we’re going to try and break our record for the longest show ever,” Dave Grohl told the crowd at Chicago’s Metro during Foo Fighters surprise show on Friday night (Aug. 4). By 2 a.m., three hours after the rockers took to the stage, they showed no signs of stopping anytime soon.

“We were given a 4 a.m. curfew,” Grohl revealed.

Sammy Hagar talks about getting Van Halen back together

Former front-man of Van Halen has talked to Maxim recently about the rumors that Van Halen might be getting back together. Hagar seemed excited by the question but had very specific demands. Hagar said this in his interview with Maxim:

“First of all, I have not been approached. Secondly, it was my idea to have Dave and I go out on tour, so if everyone was happy and behind the idea 100% — no egos, no grudges — then of course I would be into it… but only with Michael Anthony on bass. That’s what the fans want, and I know we could give them one of the greatest rock set lists of all time. We’re in a fortunate place with the band because all of the original guys are still here. We could reunite — singing and playing the way it should be. It couldn’t get any better than that. But we’ll see.”

Neal Schon angry over band’s recent Whitehouse visit

Last remaining original member of Journey has taken offense to the bands decision to visit the Whitehouse. Schon has consistently kept the band out of anything to do with politics or religion even turning down past invitations to the Whitehouse from President Obama. The Washington Times writes:

“I will remain strong and consistent with the belief we’ve always shared and agreed upon – Journey should never be used and exploited by anyone, especially band members for politics or any one religion,” Mr. Schon, formerly of Santana, wrote Thursday. “I’ve been here since 1972 and this has always been our belief. This was with intent to exploit the brand and use the name.

“The members who attended know my position and the way we’ve always been until now. [Former lead singer and co-founder] Steve Perry myself and the rest have always agreed the music we created is for Everyone,” he continued. “I had no prior knowledge of this from anyone. Not band members or Managment [sic]. This clearly shows no respect or Unity, just Divide”

Tye Trujillo has documentary made about his tour with Korn

Robert Trujillo’s 12-year-old son Tye has recently toured with Korn and even resulted in an awesome mini-doc. Baby Huey and Chasta are huge fans the Tye’s band The Helmets and even interviewed them at Bottlerock this summer. The 12-year-old prodigies talents are being widely recognized as tonedeaf.com wrote:

Recently footage emerged of Tye Trujillo, 12-year-old son of Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, filling in for Korn bassist Reginald ‘Fieldy’ Arvizu during their South American tour, but now we’ve got a full-on mini-doco about the young bass prodigy’s crazy experience on the seven-date tour.

The documentary includes the moment that ‘Fieldy’ bumped into the young Trujillo at an airport, with the friendship kicking off right then and there.

“Fieldy was very excited to see Tye,” Robert recounts. “He was like, ‘I follow you on Instagram. You’re badass!’”
